Chamaleon Icons is a program that can create Windows icons from images of any format. Customized icons are a great detail for those who love giving their personal touch to desktop applications.
Icons can be created from images of all .jpg formats, .gif, .png, or .bmp. In addition, you can also use a movie frame from .mpg, .avi, and .swf files.
Apart from Windows icons, you can create E-mail and web shortcuts, AIM Buddy icons, ICQ User shortcut and folder skins. In addition, it offers basic edition tools to improve the quality of your photographs or images, for instance, adjust brightness and contrast, or add cool effects such as sepia or black and white. You can choose from more than sixty icon styles, and download many others from the developer's website.
The interface is really user friendly and very intuitive, and offers a helpful tutorial when you use it for the first time. First, you have to select the image that you want to convert, edit the image if necessary, select the icon style and size, and save it in your preferred format. The results are excellent.
The trial version of this software can be downloaded from its official website, and even though it has some limitations it is totally functional. |
